The 74th FPS International Convention is a great venue for students in relevant degree programs to exchange with major
players from industry, academia, government and NGOs. In addition to student scholarships to defray the costs of attending the Convention, there are several events and programs at the Convention specific to students.

Student Poster Competition
The student poster competition will be held during the evening poster session on Tuesday, June 23. The prizes for this year competition will be $500 for 1st place, $300 for 2nd place, and $200 for 3rd place.
Please submit your student poster presentation abstract by January 17, 2020. Be sure to choose the “Student Poster Presentation” option when submitting the abstract to assure inclusion in the competition.
Student Scholarships

FPS Wood Award
The Wood Award recognizes and honors outstanding graduate student research conducted in the field of wood and wood products. There will be a $1,000 first place prize. Further details about how to apply will be available soon.
To submit a nomination, the graduate student's research adviser should send the student's paper and a letter of recommendation to Jennifer Whitlow at jwhitlow@forestprod.org.
Wood Science Bowl
The Wood Science Bowl is designed as a friendly wood-science technical trivia competition for students to show off their knowledge (questions range from anatomy, mechanical properties, physical properties, chemistry, composites, degradation and deterioration, marketing and even FPS trivia), as well as represent their own university or program.
This year the Wood Science Bowl will be held during the lunch break on Tuesday, June 23. Each school/program is welcome to field one team of three student competitors. However, come competition time depending on the number of registered teams, we may allow for more than one team per school.
For those students interested in participating, but coming from a school unable to field a full team, please contact Joseph Jakes (email) and additional teams will be assembled. We will take up to 8 teams, however this will be on a first come-first serve basis. The top two teams (6 competitors) will receive special awards.
Student Pub Crawl
After the poster session on Tuesday, June 23 all students are invited to gather for an impromptu social/pup crawl. Details will be provided at the conference.
